Saturday Night - Dinner with Friends

For the most part I am feeling a little better everyday, except that this morning (the day after our trip to Mysore, which I will post about a little later), I am feeling that I may have overdone it a bit as I woke up with some considerable neck pain.  Also, my voice is still gone, but I don't expect that to return for at least another week or so.

Earlier on Saturday we did some shopping.  Kei got some pretty cool Indian style clothes, and I got some great shirts for a super deal.  On Saturday night Dr. Ankit, the neurosurgical resident I discussed in this prior post, joined Kei and I for dinner.  He also brought along his roommate, Dr. Kiran, who is doing his residency for cardiac surgery.  We selected the place to eat based on a recommendation from our hotel staff, who also told us that it would only take about 15 minutes by auto rickshaw.  One problem we have encountered with auto rickshaws aside from the fact that many of the drivers do not speak English (or at least pretend not to) is that they will agree to take you to your requested location even if they have no idea where it is.  We suspect sometimes even if they do know where it is, we may be taken for the proverbial ride to increase the fare, but I am trying not to be so cynical about this.  Anyway, what was supposed to be a 15 minute ride in the auto rickshaw took about an hour after we finally gave up and told the guy to let us out.  We just walked the extra 15 minutes after asking  6 or 7 different people who all told us different things about where our destination was.

Anyway, we finally made it, and it was the best Indian food we had eaten so far in India.  Also it was great to see Dr. Ankit outside of the hospital.

This was some of the madness on the way to dinner.

Not sure about the proper Indian names for this stuff, but one was butter chicken, one was lamb, and the other was lentils - it was all awesome!

This was a very interesting dessert - sweet milk curd.

Throughout our stay at the hospital, Kei referred to Dr. Ankit as the "Hollywood star" since she thought he was very good looking.  This was even before she knew this is how he rolls.
